When you step inside a music classroom today, what you'll experience is amazing. Traditionally, you have heard the sounds of students playing various instruments, the sights of young minds concentrating on musical notation, and the collective energy of a group working in harmony. But now you also see the power of digital learning resources, engaging students as never before, in the medium they are most familiar with. All this together paints a vivid picture of an evolving educational landscape.

The transformation is, in part, thanks to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which has erased any lingering perception that music might be an academic afterthought. Instead, ESSA specifically identifies music education as a vital component of a child's well-rounded education, placing it on equal footing with subjects like math and science. Despite this progress, a significant void remains in recognizing music education's wide-ranging benefits. It's not just about learning to play an instrument or understanding musical theory. Music education reaches far beyond the notes and rhythms; it cultivates essential emotional and social skills and attributes crucial for a child's overall development.

"QuaverEd's passion has always been music; this is how our company started. Music is a transformative force in the world, and particularly in education. It uniquely harnesses students' creativity and innovative skills, but also develops logic, self-confidence, and teamwork," says Graham Hepburn, the Vice President of Content, and Co-Founder. "We believe the emotional engagement music invokes should be used across all subjects. We believe the power of music shapes the lives of children in very positive ways."

In an era of rapidly evolving educational paradigms, QuaverEd stands out as a leader in innovation and excellence in music education. The company has set new standards in how music is taught and significantly impacts the lives of tens of millions of students and over 28,000 educators around the globe. Fifteen of the 30 largest school districts in the U.S. have adopted QuaverEd as their elementary and middle school music curriculum.

A Visionary Approach to Music Education

Founded on the principles of inclusivity, creativity, and technological innovation, Dr. David V. Mastran and Hepburn founded the company in 2011.

The founders, seasoned musicians, music educators, and technologists, recognized the gaps in traditional music education—often limited by technology and accessibility issues. They envisioned an online platform for school districts to bridge these gaps and democratize music learning.
  • We will promote the power of music and its effect on the lives of children as long as we breathe

Before QuaverEd, Dr. Mastran founded a successful multi-billion dollar New York Stock Exchange company and served as CEO until his retirement in 2004. Graham received an honors degree in Piano Performance from the Colchester School of Music and performed piano concertos for many years entertaning audiences in England. They found they had a shared vision throughout Graham's trips to the U.S.: to develop a new and exciting way to communicate the wonderful world of music to young people.

Their combined experience has been quintessential in leading the company towards success. Now, with over 200 employees located on Music Row in Nashville, QuaverEd is the country's dominant school-based music education company.

The company offers comprehensive online tools and multimedia interactive resources designed to cater to different learning styles and levels. Its digital platform includes interactive lessons, composition tools, virtual instruments, and a vast library of songs accessible through an intuitive interface. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, QuaverEd ensures students can learn in the classroom (or remotely if needed) and stay motivated through gamified elements and regular assessments.

Innovative Technology Integration

One of QuaverEd's most significant contributions to music education is its innovative use of technology. The platform's customization and resource creation features allow music educators to adapt the learning experience to the needs of individual classrooms. This customization helps students stay engaged and makes learning more effective.

Additionally, QuaverEd's immersive learning experiences are unparalleled. Students can create their own music with an easy-to-use Digital WorkStation (QGrooves), a Drum Machine (QBackbeat), virtual guitar (QStrum), virtual keyboards (QComposer), and many more apps.

These immersive experiences make learning more enjoyable and help students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of music.

Professional Development

Professional development is a cornerstone of QuaverEd's offerings. The company provides ongoing training and certification programs for music educators, ensuring they are well-versed in the latest pedagogical approaches and technological tools. Committing to educator empowerment helps maintain high teaching standards and drives continuous improvement in music education.

The company hosts free webinars throughout the year to discuss educational best practices, new resources, updated content, and virtual training days, which are great for educators of every experience level. It also organizes one of the largest virtual PD conferences in the country, QuaverCon, with over 3,900 participants this year.

At the heart of QuaverEd's success is its vibrant and supportive community. The company fosters collaboration between educators worldwide through its social media platforms. Through webinars, virtual events, and collaborative projects, the users can share their experiences, learn from each other, and grow together.

Impact and Recognition

The recognition of QuaverEd as the Music Education Company of the Year is a testament to its exceptional contributions to the field. This accolade is not just a reflection of the company's innovative products and services, but also its unwavering commitment to transforming lives through music.

As QuaverEd continues to grow and evolve, it remains steadfast in its mission to enrich the lives of children through music education. Championing inclusivity and accessibility ensures that every child, regardless of their socio-eonomic background, can experience the joy and benefits of music education. The company's holistic approach cultivates musical skills and supports the development of critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence. What else could you ask for?
